🚧 Cambie Bridge Closure Sunday + Bring Spare Socks Saturday

Here’s what’s inside this issue:

Schools are closed. So are most libraries and community centres near us, and transit runs a Sunday schedule.

There's no City garbage or green bin pickup Wednesday, and every pickup after it moves a day later. Check your address if you're not sure of your day.

The Move
Working Wednesday? Üphoria Yoga on East Broadway runs a Pro-D day camp for ages 5 to 10, kindergarten and up. Think yoga, crafts, dance, games and a little quiet time. It's $85 for a half day (9 to noon or 1 to 4) or $130 for 9 to 4. Pack one snack for a half day, or two snacks and lunch for the full day. Book today for Wednesday. It runs again on the next three days off: October 23, November 11 and November 20.

This Sunday morning, the Cambie Bridge belongs to the CIBC Run for the Cure. From 9 to 11 AM, Cambie is closed northbound from Broadway, bridge and all. Stretches of 2nd, 6th, Quebec and Terminal close too, and the bridge's exit to Pacific Boulevard is shut from 5 AM to 2 PM.

The Move
Heading downtown between 9 and 11? Take the Granville Bridge, or leave the car at home: the Canada Line runs as usual. Joining the walk? Get off at Yaletown-Roundhouse. The start, at Concord Community Park, is about 20 minutes away on adult legs.

Kids in Grades 2 to 4 get their own teenager for three Wednesdays. The library supplies the LEGO and the robots.

It's VPL's STEAM Buddies. The teens are trained volunteers, and there's a new challenge each week.

Register today on the Terry Salman form, with their grade and any allergies handy. There's no posted deadline, but two of the four branches are already full. Don't wait for one.

Why It Matters
Three free Wednesdays where a teenager, not you, says "try it again." Funny how it lands better from someone who doesn't also run bedtime. 🤖

Children always get into the Art Gallery free. For its 95th birthday, the grown-ups name their price on Friday.

Admission by Donation Day runs in school hours, so think babies, preschoolers and parents on leave. Two things are worth the trip for a kid. Jim Lambie's Zobop is a staircase striped in tape that you're allowed to walk on, up until Monday, October 12. Brian Jungen's Cetology is a whale skeleton made of plastic patio chairs.

Book a 10 or 11 AM slot today, one ticket per person, baby included. Take the Canada Line: parking will likely cost more than your donation.

Why It Matters
It's indoors, it's your price, and you're home by nap time. 🎨

Kids First runs the first Saturday and Sunday of every month at The Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver. Kids make an art project inspired by what's on the walls.

It's billed for ages 5 to 12, but this reader has been bringing their kids since age 3. Their other tip: "Extra points for taking the Canada Line and taking kids on the SeaBus to get there."

The Move
RSVP for 10:15. Catch the Canada Line at King Edward by 9:20, then the 9:46 SeaBus. Lunch at Lonsdale Quay Market next door, and take the boat home by 1, before the tired hour.

Why It Matters
Your kitchen table stays clean, and you pay what you can. Odds are the 12-minute boat ride is what they talk about on Monday. ⛴️

🔗 RSVP for a time slot: The Polygon Gallery

Okay, this one's a drive. For two weeks, a Langley farm hands out chest waders and lets families wade into a circle of floating cranberries.

The Cranberry Plunge is knee-deep, and staff take the photo on your phone.

The Move
For the over-5 crowd: book this Saturday now. Only four time slots were left on Monday. If your crew has a weekday off, October 1 to 8 is wide open.

5 and under: book the Harvest Farm Tour on Thanksgiving Monday, October 12, at 10 AM. It's $12.50 for 13 and up and $7.50 for ages 5 to 12. No under-5 price is posted. There's a Kids Corner and a scavenger hunt, and it wraps at noon.

Why It Matters
It's the rare outing where the grown-ups get in the water too. Fort Langley is on the way home for lunch. 🍁

Can't do Saturday? There's a drop-in Reading Tree Babytime on Tuesday, October 6, at 11 AM. It's at the Peretz Centre, 6184 Ash St, a block off Cambie.

🧱 Lumino Play Lab

New for October: a Saturday series for ages 3 to 5, grown-up included. It's slime and kinetic sand, so pack spare clothes. Babies up to 2 have a separate class, Sensory Craft Party, on Thursdays, October 8 and 15, at 10:30 AM or noon.

Sorry to say "Christmas" before Thanksgiving. But if your crew goes every year, this is the week to buy.

The Vancouver Christmas Market's family season pass covers two adults and two kids aged 7 to 14 for unlimited visits. It's $69.99 right now. The ticket site says that price ends Friday, but the market's own FAQ says November 15. No time slots, so nobody's racing the clock on a school night.

The Move
Going three times or more? The pass wins: even at the cheapest $7.99, three visits for four people is $96 in single tickets. Buy it by Thursday night rather than find out which deadline is right. Going once? Wait for Friday's single tickets.
