Hi friends!
My 5-year-old will stand at a construction site and watch a cement truck pour for a solid 30 minutes. Just watching. Same energy with the garbage truck. How do the bins get lifted? Where does it all go? Why is it so loud? She is mesmerized. She has questions. Many, many questions.
Kids are fascinated by this stuff. They just rarely get the opportunity to get close to it. This Saturday, two free open houses are opening the gates — cement trucks to climb on, garbage trucks to inspect, snowplows to stare at, and horns to honk loud enough to scare a seagull.
The Weather: ☀️ Friday and Saturday are doing their best impression of summer: sunny, around 20°C. Sunday cools down and clouds over, with showers more likely later Sunday night. Translation: Saturday is the outdoor-plan winner. Wear sunscreen. Keep the rain boots emotionally available.
Saturday is carrying this weekend like a parent with three backpacks.
Saturday AM: 🏗️ Concrete plant + public works open houses
Saturday all day: 🥁 Hyack Parade + Festival in New West
Saturday midday: 🦉 Meet a live owl in Surrey
All weekend: 👟 $10 shoe + clothing sale downtown
