Hi friends!

I don’t want to brag, but I am officially done. The presents are wrapped. The stockings are hung. This year, I’m even hiding my husband’s Christmas present at his eye level in the door of the refrigerator.

School is out.
Time has no meaning.
The kitchen is already a snack bar with very strong opinions.

So I did what any reasonable parent does: made us a short list, so you can pick a plan in 3 minutes and move on with your life.

One note before we start: since Thursday is Christmas Day, there won’t be a Thursday issue. We’ll be busy eating cheese and pretending the mess isn’t permanent.

Here’s what’s inside this issue:

  • The Light Chaser: A massive display in White Rock that is actually worth the drive.

  • The Magic Move: Roaming illusions at Science World to break up the boredom.

  • The Last Call: Final warnings for the free Ferris Wheel and Burnaby Village.

  • And, much more.

Scan, grab one or two that fit your week, and ignore the rest. This is a menu, not homework.

School is out, the walls are closing in, and you need a solid 30 minutes where your children are legally required to remain strapped in a chair.

  • What: FlyOver Canada’s "Soar with Santa" (a flight ride to the North Pole).

  • Where: Canada Place Pier (999 Canada Pl).

  • When: Open daily 10 AM – 7 PM (until 8 PM Fri-Sun).

  • Cost: Prices vary by timing/booking, but expect roughly $29–$38 for adults and $19–$28 for children (BC locals can be a bit less).

Quick reality check: Riders need to be at least 102 cm / 40” tall.

The Move: Make it a full outing: Warm up after at The Flying Whale Waterfront Café (hot chocolate is legit).

  • Transit Tip: Take the Canada Line from King Ed or Oakridge to Waterfront. Driving downtown right now is a spiritual test you don’t need to take.

Why It Matters: This is indoors, it’s genuinely magical (even for cynical adults). It’s a full “holiday outing” in under an hour—indoors, contained, and zero weather risk.

Bright Walk in White Rock

If you have exhausted every light display within a 5km radius, it’s time to head south.

  • What: Bright Walk in White Rock — 50,000+ lights, a 20-foot tree, and an LED light tunnel (very photo-happy).

  • Where: Memorial Park, White Rock.

  • When: Lights are on daily from dusk to dawn (until Jan 18, 2026).

  • Cost: Free (expect paid parking nearby).

The Move: Go on a weekday evening for the calmest version of this (weekends get busy). Dress like you’re going to stand beside the ocean… because you are.

Why It Matters: Big holiday sparkle, free, and low-admin. You show up, walk the loop, take a few photos, and everyone goes home feeling like you crushed “festive family time.”

If your kids are in the “school’s out, so time is fake” phase… this one lands.

  • What: "Winter Magic" at Science World. (Roaming magicians performing close-up illusions among the exhibits).

  • When: Dec 27 – Jan 1

    • Roaming magic is generally 11 AM–4 PM

    • Dec 31: early close — magic runs 11 AM–3 PM

    • Jan 1: late opening @ 12 PM (check before you go).

  • Where: Science World (1455 Quebec St).

  • Cost: Included with admission. Adult ~$37 / Kid (3-12) ~$25. (Note: Prices are slightly up for the 2025 season.)

The Move: If you want the “big moment,” time it for a show: 12:20 PM / 2:20 PM / 3:20 PM (varies by day).

  • Parking Reality: Science World parking is paid, and the outdoor meters are credit card only (no cash).

Why It Matters: It sparks wonder without the holiday sugar crash. It’s educational enough to feel productive, but entertaining enough that they won’t complain about "learning" during the break.

By Saturday, you will have stepped on at least three LEGO bricks in your own living room. It is time to let them destroy someone else’s floor for a change.

  • What: LEGO® Block Party (Free drop-in building session).

  • Where: Mount Pleasant Library (1 Kingsway).

  • When: Saturday, Dec 27 | 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM.

  • Who: Grades K-7.

  • Cost: Free.

The Move: This is a "Drop-in," but the "Smart Parent" gets there 10 minutes early to snag a good spot at the table.

  • The Vibe: Based on previous maker events here, this isn't just chaos—the kids actually get super interactive and engaged. It’s a legitimate social hour for them.

Why It Matters: It is a solid 1.5 hours of structured, creative time where they are building with other kids.

Countdown. Confetti. Home by bedtime.

  • What: Noon Year’s Eve (daytime dance party with balloon drops, confetti, and noisemakers).

  • Where: Kidtropolis — 5940 No. 2 Rd, Richmond.

  • When: Wed, Dec 31

    • 10:30 AM–1:30 PM (countdown at 12:00 PM)

    • 2:00 PM–5:00 PM (countdown at 3:00 PM)

  • Cost: $21 per person (ages 2+). Under 2 free.

The Move: Book it now, then choose your session based on nap math: morning if they melt down after lunch, afternoon if they’re functional past 2pm.

Why It Matters: You get the full “New Year’s” moment (countdown, party hats, chaos)… but you’re still home at a sane hour. And yes—the confetti lands on their floor, not your

Ditch the drizzle for a steamy glass-dome reset. Warm air. Big leaves. Birds doing their own thing. Your nervous system unclenches a notch.

  • What: A steamy glass dome with 120+ free-flying exotic birds, koi ponds, and 500+ plants.

  • Where: Queen Elizabeth Park (4600 Cambie St).

  • When: Daily 10 AM– 4 PM (Closed Dec 25).

  • Cost (2025): $9 Adult ($1 off if you buy online in advance) | $4.50 Kids (5–12) | Under 5 free (plus tax).

The Move: Treat this as a "Sensory Reset." There are no blinking Christmas lights or elves here. Just humidity and loud parrots.

  • The Layer Strategy: Strip the kids' puffy coats/snowsuits in the car. It is hot inside. If you dress them for winter, you will end up carrying three coats and a sweating toddler.

Why It Matters: It’s warm, low-key, and doesn’t demand a full-day production. Nature therapy without the hike, which is basically a holiday miracle.

Last-Call Reminders (these wrap up in early Jan)

If you still want one more “we did a holiday thing” outing… this is your low-cost, high-sparkle closer.

  • When: Now until Jan 2, 2026. (Closed Dec 24/25).

  • Where: 6501 Deer Lake Ave, Burnaby.

  • Cost: Free Gate Admission. (Carousel rides are ~$2.75).

The Move: Go for the lights (it’s a 1920s wonderland), stay for the carousel. It is the best "low cost" festive evening in the Lower Mainland.

See the holiday chaos from 60 feet up, where nobody can ask you for a snack.

  • Where: North Plaza, Vancouver Art Gallery (near the 76ft tree).

  • When: Now until Jan 3, 2026. (Closed Mon. Open 3 PM-9 PM, Tue-Thu).

  • The Deal: Rides are normally $7, BUT...

The Move: GO TODAY. It is Tuesday, which means rides are FREE.

  • Strategy: If you are reading this in the morning, plan your afternoon around a 3:00 pm arrival to beat the after-work rush. If you miss today, your last chance for a freebie is next Tuesday (Dec 30).

That’s a wrap for this week.

You’ve got this!
